#Event: The VITO Project - 'Pariah'

Wednesday 24th February at 7.00pm

The Old Lambeth Workhouse,

Dugard Way (off Renfrew Road)

Kennington, SE11 4TH,

London, UK

ReShape and the Cinema Museum are inviting you to the 14th screening of The VITO Project, a series of FREE monthly screenings bringing generations of LGBTs together to provide an alternative space to mix, watch films and share ideas. Our second screening of the year will be 'Pariah', a rousing success at its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. This deeply felt human drama is the feature debut of writer/director Dee Rees. Adepero Oduye portrays Alike, a 17-year-old African-American woman who lives with her parents (Kim Wayans and Charles Parnell) and younger sister (Sahra Mellesse) in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood. A gifted student, Alike is quietly but firmly embracing her identity as a lesbian. With the support of her best friend Laura (Pernell Walker), she is especially eager to find a girlfriend. Wondering how much she can confide in her family, Alike strives to get through adolescence with grace, humor, and tenacity.

The film will be introduced by Gray Akotey, designer, entrepreneur, vlogger and aspiring filmmaker and Chardine Taylor-Stone, cultural producer, musician, DJ and activist. This month we will be starting at the earlier time of 19.00. Doors to the cafe/bar will open at 18.00. Come early to secure a seat as it can get very busy and we do not take bookings. The doors to the Cinema will be shut once capacity is reached. The event is free but donations are encouraged.
